It sure is! I've known about you for a while and while I have been in the animation business elsewhere, I have recently been gifted with the foresight of learning interactive animation, before it becomes absolute mainstream.

So tell me a bit about your background. How did you end up where you are now?
Kasper Rubin
Well, I've been switching between inhouse department and various studios, learning to both support single brands and dealing with multiple brands from day to day.
I've been all over the place and I believe my portfolio reflects that. When I finished DMJX back in 2019, I added animation and conceptual storytelling to my skillset.
Though I'm officially an interactive designer now, I've really been doing a lot of motion design - until 2024 when I started doing interactive web animations.

Looks like you know your stuff. I'm looking at your portfolio and I'm especially intrigued by Minifonen. Could you give me a short rundown of the case?
Kasper Rubin
Certainly. I did my bachelor was intrigued by the motivations and the "game" that some teens engage in, when they share nudes of others. Ultimately I came up with a tool for them to help reach out to someone they trusted, like a sports coach, if they hid their secret from friends and parents. When you are in a bad way, with feelings running rampant, you want to be helped, not scolded. By sending a premade text message to someone, asking what to help with and how to help, I believe it opens the door for the young boy or girl's term, rather than the adult.
Besides the tool I made a What if campaign, targeting someone considering to send a nude and the implications that might have. It was important to hide the faces and make sharing as easy as dealing out cards.

Thinking about your journey into THE COMPANY, how do you approach creative problem-solving?
Kasper Rubin
I've always prided myself on being curious about people and business areas I no experience with. Though my mind can't help but conjour up on-the-spot visuals when someone opens their mouth, I feel confident in the creative proces and the course it needs to take. There must be room to experiment, get lost and find avenues to a good solution.

It all sounds really exciting from where I’m sitting. But I’m curious about what it’s like working with you. How do you handle feedback?
Kasper Rubin
I prefer a structure where I have responsibilities to a client and are able to chat with them throughout the process, instead of sealing myself off in a bubble.
I'm good with discarding darlings and realign the creative approach to one that fit more with what the brief is about. In my experience having a strong connection with the client can really lift up the entire project and allow more trust in creative choices.
